Learning in the AI Era
If AI can generate answers and write code, why should children learn STEM, robotics and coding? Because understanding helps them ask better questions, test ideas and make sense of the results.
STEM gives children practice reasoning with evidence. Robotics turns ideas into something they can build, measure and improve. Coding helps them understand the instructions behind the technology and work out what needs to change.
At Zebra, students develop these foundations through hands-on projects, one challenge at a time — building the understanding to create thoughtfully with the tools of today and tomorrow.
Interview · Nationwide 90 FM, Jamaica · 1:19
“There is a need to understand programming.”
Prof. Jonathan Kelly
Director, STARS Lab, University of Toronto
Zebra Robotics Advisory Board member
From the interview
Prof. Kelly points first to mathematics and programming. Those foundations help students understand how AI tools work, use them with judgment and recognize their limits.
AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude can produce remarkable results from a prompt. But students still need to understand programming to know what the generated code does and whether it works as intended.
Students can end up relying on something an AI tool built that they do not fully understand — and miss serious limitations in what it produced.
How Learning Works

“We attended a free trial on July 26, and it was such a wonderful experience. From the moment we arrived, Gurpreet at the front desk made us feel so welcome. As first-time visitors, we had so many questions, but she answered every single one with kindness, patience, and genuine care. We were truly touched by how attentive and helpful she was. We also want to thank Coach Justin. Since it was our first trial, we had lots of questions and my child was new to everything, but he never rushed us or overlooked anything. He took the time to explain, encourage, and teach with so much enthusiasm and professionalism. Thank you both for making our first experience such a positive one. We left feeling excited, and we’re looking forward to coming back !”

“We were hosted for a 1 hour session in the evening for our beaver scout group. The kids, aged 5-7, had a wonderful time coding Lego on laptops. It was right at their skill level, with enough hands on engagement, and the tasks were not too complex for their age. The facilities were clean and kid friendly. They offer some exciting programs over a diverse range of times and plans. Highly recommended. Thanks again for having us!”
